New York City May 27- June 1, 2020
New York City, center of the Universe. Step into the heart of it, with The Art History Babes. Join Corrie, Natalie, Ginny, and Jen on this five-day tour through “the city that never sleeps.”
From the finest art museums in the world, to the thriving street art scene in Brooklyn, NYC is perhaps the greatest city in the world to truly immerse yourself. Now is your chance to slay!
Let’s Take a Bite Out of the Big Apple!
Day One- Welcome to NYC! Check into the hotel and relax. Join The Art History Babes on a private rooftop bar for a meet and greet with light appetizers and- you guessed it- wine!
Day Two- Rise and shine! You’re about to experience THE quintessential art museum with a group visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our guided tour will feature museum highlights while allowing plenty of free time for you to discover your faves. Grab lunch on your own at one of the museum cafes and spend the rest of the day lost in 5,000 years of art at the Met.
Join the buzz Thursday evening as we attend the opening receptions of the art galleries in Chelsea. Known as one of the centers of the New York City art world, Chelsea boasts over 200 area galleries. Together, we’ll stroll and see the contemporary art scene up-close. (Shows will be announced at a later date.)
Day Three- Today we head to the most populous boroughs in NYC, Brooklyn!
Our visit to Brooklyn, a hub of postmodern art and design, will start with a self- guided tour of The Brooklyn Art Museum, which has a collection from around the world, dating from ancient to contemporary.
After seeing the classical art in the museum, we take it to the streets! The Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn is home to incredible street art. A local street art expert will guide a one-hour walking tour of this distinctive neighborhood showcasing some truly impressive works!
Let’s continue in the unconventional with a visit to The Chimney. A Brooklyn art gallery that defies the traditional, The Chimney showcases architecture and artists that enhance this non-traditional building.
The evening is New York at your leisure! Catch a show, do some shopping, or continue to hang out in Brooklyn, arguably New York’s hippest borough.
Day Four- Ever wonder what it would be like to be an artist in New York? Get all your questions answered as we journey to the Bronx to visit the studio of artist, Laura Alvarez. Originally from Spain, Laura now calls New York her home and she’s passionate about her community. She’ll take us on a walking tour to view her street murals, designed to “bring joy” to an area. With work showcased around the world, Laura believes everyone is an artist. We’ll visit her studio as she shares her creative process and stories about her life as a working artist.
After our visit with Laura Alvarez, we make a stop at The Met Cloisters – a branch of The Met devoted to art and architecture of Medieval Europe. With views of the Hudson River, The Cloisters, reconstructed from European monasteries, features over 2,000 works of art. Explore the museum at your own pace.
Tonight, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore art and architecture without the crowds! Join our private, after-hours, guided tour of The Guggenheim Museum – An internationally renowned art museum and significant architectural icon.
Whew! Relax and unwind after a full day with this optional delicious Italian feast at Siena Café, near The Guggenheim. Our dinner will be an indulgent 3-course meal complete with wine and beer allowing for plenty of time to discuss your favorite pieces with new friends.
Day Five- Newly renovated, complete with a large expansion, MoMA is first up on today’s agenda. MoMA is home to classics like Starry Night and, with the new expansion, many new and contemporary works are here to be discovered. After your museum visit, the afternoon is yours to fit in your last-minute, must-see spots in Manhattan.
Tonight, we say farewell to new friends and The Art History Babes at UnArthodox, a new and immersive art experience. Enjoy a catered meal with wine before getting hands dirty with clay! This sculpting class will take you step-by-step through sculpting your own face – blindfolded! What will you look like?
Day Six- It is time to check out of the hotel, but if that felt like a New York minute, there is always more to do in Manhattan. If you simply haven’t had enough, contact Laura Hart with Like Minds Travel at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange any extra nights at the hotel.
