Day One: Welcome
Welcome to the Netherlands—a small country with an outsized impact on art, history, and culture, and one of the most spectacularly beautiful destinations in the world. This evening, we’ll gather at our hotel to raise a glass to the adventures ahead and to meet the like-minded travelers who will share this unforgettable journey with you.
Day Two: A Tale of Two Hiding Spots
Amsterdam is celebrated today as one of the most open and tolerant cities in the world—but its past tells a more complex story. This morning, we step into history at the Anne Frank House, where Anne and her family lived in hiding before their discovery by the Nazis in 1944. Walking through the preserved rooms and reading her words is an experience both heartbreaking and deeply moving—one of Amsterdam’s most important and unforgettable sites.
This afternoon, we turn back the clock to the 1600s with a visit to a remarkable hidden church, tucked inside an unassuming Dutch canal house. Here, Catholics once gathered in secret to worship during a time when public practice of their faith was forbidden. Today, this “house church” stands as a charming and atmospheric reminder of resilience, faith, and the layered history that makes Amsterdam so compelling.
Day Three: Learn to Paint
Everyone recognizes the iconic blue-and-white Delftware that has become a symbol of the Netherlands. Today, we travel to its source in the charming town of Delft, where tradition and craftsmanship come to life. We’ll begin with a hands-on workshop, guided by artisans who will show us the delicate techniques behind this centuries-old craft. You’ll even have the chance to paint your own tile—a meaningful keepsake to take home. Afterwards, we’ll tour the factory and watch the masters at work, transforming blank ceramics into the intricate designs beloved around the world.
The afternoon is yours to savor the beauty of Delft itself, a picturesque town of canals, historic squares, and artistic heritage. It was here that Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer lived and painted, and wandering its streets feels like stepping into one of his works. Lunch on your own in Delft will be a chance to soak up the town’s timeless charm before we return to Amsterdam.
This evening, we experience the city from its most enchanting perspective—the water. A private canal cruise awaits, complete with drinks and appetizers as we glide past gabled houses and arched bridges. It’s the perfect way to toast our journey together and see Amsterdam in its most magical light.
Day Four: The Masters
The Dutch have mastered many things, but art may be their greatest legacy. This morning we begin at the world-renowned Rijksmuseum, home to treasures of the Dutch Golden Age. Here, you’ll stand before Rembrandt’s dramatic Night Watch and admire the luminous works of Vermeer, surrounded by masterpieces that shaped the history of European art.
Our journey continues to the Van Gogh Museum, where we explore the bold colors and emotional brushstrokes of one of the most influential artists of the modern era. From the Golden Age to Post-Impressionism, today is a celebration of creativity that continues to inspire the world.
But artistry in the Netherlands is not limited to canvas. The Dutch have also perfected the craft of jenever, the juniper-flavored spirit that inspired modern gin. We’ll tour a distillery to discover its history, production, and cultural importance before sampling this distinctive drink for ourselves. A day of masterpieces—both painted and distilled.
Day Five: Manicured Beauty
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for—tulips in all their glory. Today begins at the world-renowned Keukenhof Gardens, where more than seven million bulbs bloom in a spectacular display of color and fragrance. Stroll at your own pace through vibrant flowerbeds, whimsical sculptures, and breathtaking landscapes designed to celebrate the beauty of spring.
Next, we continue to the Tulip Experience, where a delicious lunch welcomes us before a guided walk through the vibrant fields. Here, you’ll not only admire row upon row of brilliant blossoms and cut your own bouquet, but also learn about the fascinating history of the Tulip Boom of the 1600s, when tulips were so prized they sparked the world’s first economic bubble. This blend of beauty and history makes the day unforgettable—an immersion into the flower that has become the symbol of the Netherlands.
Day Six: Cheese!
Speaking of Dutch specialties, cheese has to be near the very top of the list. Today we venture outside of Amsterdam to the picturesque village of Alkmaar, home to one of the country’s most beloved traditions—the weekly cheese market. Dating back centuries, this lively event is a feast for the senses, where wheels of cheese are carried, weighed, and traded in a spectacle that feels straight out of the past.
After enjoying the market, take time to wander Alkmaar’s charming lanes, lined with historic buildings and bustling with local vendors. Traditional food stands tempt with Dutch favorites—perhaps you’ll sample a warm stroopwafel, or, if you’re feeling bold, try the famous pickled herring, a true local delicacy. This day is as much about experiencing Dutch culture as it is about savoring its flavors.
Day Seven: Fields of Color
Our grand finale takes us straight to the heart of what we came for—the tulip fields themselves, just row upon row of blossoms painting the landscape in a breathtaking palette of color. You’ll have the chance to wander among the blooms, capture unforgettable photos, and simply take in the beauty of this fleeting season. We’ll visit several fields throughout the day, each offering its own dazzling display, before pausing for a light lunch together in the countryside.
In the afternoon, we step into another Dutch icon: the traditional windmill. These graceful structures are more than postcard images—they are living symbols of Dutch ingenuity and rural life, and exploring one up close is a perfect way to round out our journey.
This evening, we gather one last time to share a traditional Dutch meal and raise a glass in farewell. As we part ways, we carry with us not just memories of tulips, windmills, and canals, but also the friendships and shared experiences that have made this journey so special.
