Day One: Welcome to the City by the Bay
Welcome to San Francisco! We’re kicking things off with a cocktail party at the hotel — the perfect chance to meet your fellow field trippers and say hi to Susan and Beckett!. From there, we hop aboard a double-decker bus to hit all the iconic monuments that make this city so unmistakably San Francisco.
Day Two: The Women of San Francisco
Today we visit perhaps the most iconic site in the Bay, Alcatraz Island — not just the infamous prison, but the grounds where Wilma Mankiller helped lead the Native American occupation of the island. After some free time on the pier, we join local guides for a walking tour* curated just for this group, featuring women like Maya Angelou, Odetta, and Isadora Duncan, along with lesser-known figures like Alma Spreckels. The evening is yours to explore and find your own favorite corner of this vibrant city.
*San Francisco is built on 49 hills! We will have a bus to get us up the hills and to the next neighborhod.
Day Three: The Art and Culinary Art of San Francisco
We start the morning at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for a guided tour spotlighting the women artists featured in the collection. Then we turn our attention to San Francisco’s culinary treasures at Bistro Boudin for a group lunch featuring their famous sourdough bread. After lunch, the evening is yours to explore — perhaps you’ll take a ride on the cable car!
Day Four: The Legendary Winchester House and Goodbye
Today we venture out to the legendary Winchester House for a guided tour where we dig into the true story behind its maze of staircases, doors, and rooms — separating fact from fiction and uncovering the real history of Sarah Winchester herself. Then we head back to the bay for a private dinner cruise with beautiful Golden Gate views, complete with a full dinner, open bar, and dancing — because no one can party quite like our History Chicks field trippers!
Day Five: Leave Your Heart in San Francisco
We wrap up our adventure with one last breakfast before checking out and heading home — full of memories (and maybe a little sourdough for the road). As the song goes, we’re sure to leave a piece of our hearts right here in San Francisco.
