Join The History Chicks, Beckett and Susan, for a week-long field trip through Scotland. We’ll walk in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Victoria, and learn the stories of many other women who have called this legendary country home. Along the way, we’ll soak up Scottish culture too — from the Highlands’ traditional music and dance to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, and perhaps a visit from the most infamous Scot of all… Nessie!

Day one: Welcome to Scotland
Arrive in Edinburgh and settle into our hotel before the trip truly begins. This evening, join your fellow travelers — and Susan and Beckett! — for a welcome reception to kick things off and get acquainted with the group over drinks and canapes. Then, hop aboard a double-decker bus for a city tour through Edinburgh’s storied streets, your first glimpse of the history, legends, and beauty that await over the next week.
Day two: The Ladies of Edinburgh
This morning, join our Blue Badge guide for a Women of Edinburgh walking tour, winding through the heart of the city to introduce us to new women from history while revisiting the tales of others we’ve studied along the way. Then we switch gears for an elegant afternoon tea at The Balmoral Hotel’s Palm Court — a favorite of the Queen Mother herself.
Day three: Castles and Treasure
No visit to Edinburgh is complete without Edinburgh Castle, home to the Scottish Crown Jewels and once inhabited by Mary Queen of Scots herself. From there, we head to the National Museum of Scotland, home to a collection of Mary Queen of Scots’ jewels. With the afternoon still ahead of you, this leaves plenty of time to find your own Edinburgh side quest!
Day four: Footsteps of Royals
Today we leave Edinburgh behind and set off for the Highlands, with a couple of royal stops along the way. First, Glamis Castle, childhood home of the Queen Mother and one of Scotland’s most storied castles. Then on to Balmoral*, where we’ll wander the magnificent gardens beloved by generations of royals — from Queen Victoria to today. Along the way, we’ll also pause in the charming village of Ballater, long a favorite stop for royals traveling to and from Balmoral, before continuing on to settle in for the night in Inverness.
*The only interior space scene at Balmoral by the public is the ballroom.
Day five: Legendary Lochs and Battles
This morning, join a guided tour of Culloden Battlefield, the haunting site of the final Jacobite uprising and a turning point in Scottish history. Here we’ll also learn the story of Flora MacDonald, the young Jacobite heroine who famously helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape to safety in the aftermath of the battle. Then it’s on to the water for a private Loch Ness cruise, complete with breathtaking views, drinks, and snacks — and maybe, just maybe, a glimpse of Nessie herself. In the evening, we head to Bogbain Farm for a night of traditional Highland music and dance over dinner.
Day six: Isle of Skye
Today we venture to the Isle of Skye, with a stop at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle along the way. Once there, we’ll roam the charming port town of Portree, with plenty of scenic stops throughout the day showcasing some of the most spectacular scenery Scotland has to offer accompanied by expert local guides.
Day seven: Stirling Castle
Today we begin our journey back to Edinburgh, but not without a few memorable stops along the way. First, we stop in the charming town of Pitlochry for lunch on your own. Visit the local distillery for a wee dram or simply wander the picturesque village. Then we continue on to Stirling Castle — the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots, who was crowned here as an infant queen.
Day eight: A Royal Goodbye
We’ve saved something truly special for our final day. It begins with a private tour of Holyrood Palace*, followed by a visit to The King’s Gallery for a special exhibition (details to be announced). But the highlight of the day — and perhaps the entire trip — awaits this evening aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, Queen Elizabeth’s beloved former floating home. We’ll begin with an exclusive private tour of the yacht, followed by an elegant five course farewell dinner with traditional Scottish surprises along the way. Then, we’ll dance the night away right there on deck. The perfect send off to an epic week.
*Private tour will be confirmed once His Majesty has confirmed his schedule for 2027. In the event that his visit prohibits a private tour, we will visit Holyrood during regular hours.
Day Nine: Safe Travels
What a week it’s been. From castles to lochs, crown jewels to bagpipes, we’ve walked in the footsteps of queens and made memories — and friends — that will last a lifetime. Safe Travels!
Package Price:
The package price for a single room is $6,885 per person. The package price for a shared room is $5,650 per person. A $1,000 deposit per person is required at the time of registration, is non-refundable and will be deducted from the total price. The final balance will be due on March 20, 2027 and will be paid by invoice to Like Minds Travel and is non-refundable at that time. It is highly recommended that you source travel insurance to protect your interests.
If you are registering with a roommate, but want to be billed separately, fill out the form individually and place each others name in the space indicated. You will be paired in the same room. Like Minds Travel does not pair solo travelers with a roommate, but through our group chat you can usually find a roommate.
Extra night are available at the host hotel. The cost for a single room in Edinburgh is $390 and double is $405. Email extranights@likemindstravel.com and state your desired dates and what tour you are on in the email. Like Minds Travel will add the nights to your final invoice.
Airfare and airport transfers are not included in the package price. Like Minds Travel recommends flying into Edinburgh Airport (EDI). The first official event is June 20 at 6:00 PM, so you need a flight to get you there in time for that. The last event is June 27 evening. You can book your return time for anytime on the 28th.
This tour is for guests 18 and older and requires a lot of walking and stairs. There is also a decent amount of bus time. The Isle of Skye day trip is 12 hours with scenic stops and breaks, but is a long bus ride. Group size is capped at 50 people.
